ps : i know anil kapoor sucks and the accents are totally unmatched. still – watch it for the story. the realities and coincidents are just too startling.

rating : 4 on 5

considering i’ve watched the ‘mother movie’ – memento, i appreciated it – somewhat… was blown away by aamir’s acting – just beyond description… asin was a welcome fresh face though her character was spiced up too… ghajini is without a doubt a highly indianised version of memento… the initial animation copied from memento… got extremely put off by the senseless item numbers… rahman disappointed with the score – he seems to have taken up too many movies simultaneously… and failed to adhere to his standards in any of them – yuvvraaj, ghajini… aamir’s radical ‘physical transformation’ was a bit too illogical… the love story was something added to make it a complete indian film though i have to say, i enjoyed the humour… but the irony of aamir’s situation – i couldn’t identify with more…

you’d rather watch memento first, before watching this movie… though watch both if you’re an indian…

second thoughts : i spent the night on it and revise my rating to 3.2 (from 4) on 5 – memento was hell, and i mean hell, better… the action in the movie is totally illogical – aamir and his superhuman powers of beating up 10 people at once… indian cinema is not improving ::sighs::

the bucket list : 4.1 on 5
morgan freeman and jack nicholson… the dying wishes of two cancer patients – the different yet similar of two complete strangers meeting the same fate… particularly liked the end – when freeman meets a girl in the bar and realises that he loves his wife more than ever… he previously says that after 45 years of leading a family life, now that his sons and daughter were making their own life, when he looked at his wife, devoid of all ‘distractions’ he could not remember what it felt like when he couldn’t dream of walking down the street not holding her hand…
on the other hand there’s nicholson… leading a lavish lifestyle with his kopi luac and his legacy of four wives decides to have fun during his last days on earth… adventurous, non – metaphorical… ( reminds me of moti )
one of my favourite scenes is when they’re on a lion safari in tanzania and they’re singing ‘the lion sleeps tonight’ :) and also when they’re sitting atop the pyramids of giza… just taking in the majesty… its beautiful…
watch it if you have time – you’ll not regret it… i think dasvidaniya is the indian adaptation of this movie… haven’t checked that out…

gangster : 4 on 5
first, i’d never have thought of such a viewpoint ( kangna’s – a gangster’s love ) had i not watched this movie… according to wiki its about abu salem and monica bedi… still, its conflicting – kangna’s story… on one side she’s in love with daya (shiney ahuja), a gangster who, despite his oeuvre in the mafia, loves kangna true to the heart… he takes her to seoul and leaves her a house alone, going for a mission… meanwhile kangna is helpless and lonely – which to some extent i can identify with… she gets a call from him once a week at an unknown time and she has no way to contact him… not knowing whether this is the last time she will ever talk to him or if there will be another… she gets involved with aakash (emraan hashmi) who is actually an undercover detective of the indian intelligence…
the story goes on to the point where aakash convinces kangna that she must turn in shiney for his own sake, if not hers… the scene that follows left me numb… shiney is badly injured and bleeding, with sindur in his hands and waiting for him is kangna, with the police… i don’t know who to feel worse for… even thinking of it i’m left paralysed…
kangna and shiney both were awarded awards, and rightly so… watch it…

the prestige : 4.2 on 5
the contest between two magicians for excellence in their acts, their magic, love – obsession, madness, surprise… watch it – please…

the grudge : 3.5 on 5
some scenes scary, others pretty ok… as love mentioned, the scariest ghost voice till date… the last scene is most scary… its ok… you won’t miss much if you don’t see it…

in one word – moving … you just HAVE to watch it…

also watched yuvvraaj – crap movie – don’t watch it…

though it brought me to this thought – if you become intensely mad about a song and then see its video, you are totally let down because it is NOT at all what you related the song with… felt this for both ‘tu muskura’ and especially for ‘lat ulajhe’… they just deserve to be loved as songs – beautiful ones… intense ones…

fight club : 4.2 on 5

liked the movie – was dark in a sense… edward norton shone but the grisly details grossed me out… too much blood, too much fighting… didn’t quite get the meaning of it getting into anti social doings… and then ofcourse, the alter ego – it was  shocking to say the least… and a very different kind of ‘love’ between ‘tyler’ and marla… and didn’t get the minute details of somethings – like when norton shoots himself with the barrel of the gun in his mouth, how does he get a wound near the ear and brad pitt at the back of his head… how can someone visualise so much about another person… doing tangible things that he himself is not doing… and how someone can get hooked on to life support groups as a sense of deriving satisfaction for your own self… the movie was involving and i think you’d rather watch it…

welcome to sajjanpur : 4.4 on 5

what i liked most – shreyas talpade’s role… the illiterate village through his literate eyes and him taking the blame of what every person said or did via writing… corruption, injustice, discrimination… what happens blatantly at those levels… and then there was his romantic side, desperately trying to cling on a girl constantly slipping away… love in loss – but lost love in grace and honour… conflicting, compromising, painful humourous, but sometimes the way the world works for a sajjan… he did find his own though – which was a bit heartening…

sweet november : 3.2 on 5

in one word it was incredibly illogical… ok those were two words… but still… the thought that a cancer patient will switch lovers every month just so that she feels she can give to them all her life and show her spirit – i didn’t quite understand how that worked out… and keanu – leaving his job, apartment, everything for her… without even knowing she was suffering like this… was he appealed just by the madness of it all? for most of us, we weigh each such decision on a complex balance and end up with a befuddling conclusion… he, leapt into it, cuz perhaps he was helpless and so was he… i don’t know… the movie was a dream in motion for me… some frames i hardly understood by found myself swayed by… its upon you to watch this… reasons you possibly could have to watch it : charlize theron and/or keanu reeves, and romance… that’s about it…

the bridges of madison county : 4.5 on 5

tragically beautiful – painfully and heartwrenchingly so… clint eastwood and meryl streep – a class apart… the suddenness of the whole thing grips you – the knowledge of the span of the four days… the decisions of  a woman… as a mother, as a wife… and leaving out her own dreams to allow her children to take flight… ‘her life of details’ as she put it… its one of the movies i’ll remember always… the sacrifice, the shameless guilt (oxymoron there – but rightfully so)… hot tears streaming into my ears – wishing so desperately that he was close… you have to watch this one – especially if you’re in love

post endsem : the grudge, cinderella man and troy

priyanka chopra did a decent job – kangana yet again the career crazy woman who spoils herself to madness with drugs… liked the woman who played anisha… the movie was predictable and honestly, i expected more from madhur bhandarkar, especially after page 3… didn’t quite understand what he wanted to show by making this movie… it definitely doesn’t bring to the light why someone should want to be a model…

watched this movie right now – it’s on teenage pregnancy… she’s 16 and she decides to ‘have sex’ with her ‘boyfriend’… juno is the ‘dude’ kinda girl – totally tomboyish… she initially considers abortion but instead decides to have the baby and give it up for adoption to this very deserving couple…

it brought me very mixed feelings – this movie… it’s difficult to imagine myself ever in her situation… watch it if you ever get the chance…

went with divya yesterday… had wanted to watch it but wasn’t exactly craving it…

the movie is a nice feel-good romantic fun movie… the first half is typical college life – a bit boring… but the second half brings it to life… the excessively cute and mischeivous genelia d’souza and trying-hard-to-be-chocolate boy imraan khan make a cute couple :)

a lot of the scenes are at st xaviers, marine drive and band stand… bringing back a handful of memories to me…

enjoy the movie :) must watch it once :)
